So... this idea isn't new. The idea came up a couple of times in the last few years. The most concrete notions started to come up early in 2011, when sourceforge had their major downtime due to compromised infrastructure. With centralised version control, if the server is gone, you're kind of screwed. With distributed version control, it doesn't matter. You can just keep on working and if your usual canonical location doesn't come back to life you can just set up another one elsewhere.

I wasn't quite sure if it ever would, but now it finally happened:

Side effect: Fast `diff' and `log' sub commands. ;)
